Nathan Méténier, a prominent French climate activist, continues to champion the amplification of youth voices in European climate policy. As the founder of Generation Climate Europe, the largest coalition of youth-led networks at the European level, Méténier emphasizes the critical role of young people in shaping a sustainable future.

From the French Alps to Global Advocacy

Growing up in Grenoble, nestled in the French Alps, Méténier witnessed firsthand the tangible effects of climate change, including the retreat of glaciers and the destabilization of Mont Blanc. These observations ignited his passion for environmental advocacy. He served as the Regional Director of Youth4Nature and as a spokesperson for Youth and Environment Europe, furthering his commitment to environmental issues. Currently, he is pursuing studies at the London School of Economics.

Founding Generation Climate Europe

In 2019, Méténier established Generation Climate Europe with the goal of uniting European youth movements dedicated to environmental advocacy. The organization has become a pivotal platform for youth engagement in climate policy, working to ensure that the perspectives and concerns of young Europeans are integral to policy discussions.

Serving on the UN Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change

Méténier's influence extends to the international arena. From 2020 to 2022, he was appointed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres to the inaugural Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change. At 21, he was one of the youngest members, representing France and Western Europe. This role allowed him to directly advise the UN on climate action, advocating for policies that resonate with younger generations.

Advocacy for EU Climate Action

Through Generation Climate Europe, Méténier has been instrumental in pushing the European Union to adopt more robust climate policies. The coalition actively lobbies for comprehensive climate action, aiming to influence EU legislation and ensure that youth perspectives are considered in policy-making processes.

Looking Ahead

As Europe confronts the challenges of climate change, the active participation of its youth is indispensable. Nathan Méténier's unwavering dedication underscores the necessity of integrating youth voices into climate policy, striving for a future that is both sustainable and inclusive.
